Are you a leader?
(If you’re not sure, look over your shoulder and see whether there is anyone following you.)
In these difficult and uncertain times we need leaders to lead and humans to flourish more than ever.
Whether you lead through running a business, leading a team, raising children, caring for others - we need you, me and everyone who can to step up and lead.
How can I help?
Thanks for asking! Three ways you can help (that we can think of right now):
You could share this page with other leaders who would find this helpful or encouraging.
You could write a short blog post / article about how to lead well in this season (or at least what you've figured out so far!)
You could send us any ideas, thoughts, or helpful suggestions. We’d love to hear from you.

We haven’t always understood clearly what it means to be an entrepreneur…
Do you have to have billions of dollars to get started?
Do you have to be ruthless and stamp on lots of other people to get to the top?
Do you have to be super-human, super-smart and super-energetic?
Nah…
I recently read these eight traits of the Entrepreneurial Mindset (from this book) and thought they were pretty helpful.
I'm not a big fan of US elections - I'm sure I'm not alone in that! But of the various articles and videos about the US elections that I did engage with over this last fortnight, one video stood out far and above all the others - and that was this video of President-elect Jo Biden (Democrat) giving a eulogy at the funeral of Senator John McCain (Republican) two years ago.
This year has caused many to reflect on what really matters and what is truly important. How do we invest the finite time we do have in this life into things that are truly good and truly matter - to us and to other people?
Research does not tell us that the best leaders give their followers what they ‘want’. Needs and wants are not the same thing. Effective leaders understand their followers needs. And from a place of understanding needs, leaders are best able to lead effectively.
Whether you are taking charge in a school, a boardroom, on a construction site, or even in your home, it is likely you will find yourself leading at some point in your life. So what are the keys to being an effective leader?
Valorie Kondos Field knows a lot about winning. As the longtime coach of the UCLA women's gymnastics team, she won championship after championship and has been widely acclaimed for her leadership. In this inspiring, brutally honest and, at times, gut-wrenching talk, she shares the secret to her success. Hint: it has nothing to do with "winning." (ted.com)
In normal life many of us adults are far to busy to waste time sitting around reading books. There is far to much to do…. And then there was lockdown. Isolation. A forced slowing down.
At lifeincolour we get to play a small part in helping all kinds of people discover what’s right with them, and how to show up and be their best selves at work, at home and in all of life.

The more I chose to see this season as an invitation to slow down, the more I discover the rich benefits, the new possibilities, the creative opportunities which I would otherwise have missed. And the more I notice my brain firing up in innovative, connective, generative ways which it doesn’t often get to do.
In this season of slowing down, I have had space to imagine what could be. I have had space to dream.
On the benefits of slowing down. And being a bit less busy. And making time to do physical exercise.
If you had asked me ten years ago about the benefits of slowing my life down I would have probably either a) looked at you as if you had just asked me about the benefit of eating a raw onion (who would EVER do a thing like that…), or b) uttered some comment along the lines of ‘I can sleep when I’m dead’.
But here I am sharing, from my own first-hand experience, the benefits of not rushing around as much as possible and being as busy as humanly possible…
It’s not easy to sit quietly in a room alone. But it is good.
Anger, fear, sadness, shame and numerous other difficult emotions are swirling around us like a storm in the current circumstances. And yet, there is an increasing body of research into human emotions which concludes:
How we choose to respond to the emotions we feel is within our circle of control.
The way we look at the world makes more of a difference than we think…
There are three key ‘circles’ in our life where we can invest our mental and emotional energy. In a crisis, it is easy to get these back to front.
Three simple recommendations for leaders and managers…
Support and advice for small business owners… And all other humans too…
Remembering the story of Admiral Jim Stockdale, and the need to hold to both hope and reality in times of crisis.
